Presentation to Soldiers of Gloucestershire Museum

At their September 2022 meeting the Trustees agreed to grant £1,000 to the Soldiers of Gloucestershire Museum.  The Museum had applied for the money to support a project putting together ‘history boxes’ for hire to schools.  Many schools in Gloucestershire are struggling to finance supplementary educational trips with the average coach hire for schools in excess of £90 plus the other costs of organising such trips.  The Museum is setting up a scheme whereby schools can hire an educational box for a small administration fee (£25 proposed).  The box will contain an array of items relevant to the history national curriculum.  The grant will cover the cost of populating four boxes, each of them relating to a different historical period – Fossils & Dinosaurs, Romans, World War 1 and World War II. The Museum will report back to the Trustees in a year’s time on the success of the project.

The photograph shows the cheque being presented to Matthew Holden, Museum Director, by Trustee Duncan Munro.  Duncan, who is interested in military history and feels it is important to maintain and pass on that history to the present and future generations, was given a tour of the Museum and heard about plans to develop the use of the building and enhance the different displays.
