The Honourable Company’s Charitable Trust has provided a grant of £1,000 to Voices Gloucester.
This registered charity is based at Gloucester Archives. It aims to champion community-led history and heritage in Gloucester and beyond. It does this by engaging with local historians, project leaders and anyone with an interest in the City’s history; it provides space to share stories and also mentors and supports activities for such people. It particularly focuses on creative skills and experience and encourages others to become involved, especially those who do not typically take part in heritage activities.
The Trust’s grant will help Voices Gloucester Trustee and local historian, Tony Conder, to take a selection of their film library to different venues and schools across Gloucestershire. The films are about groups and individuals – two examples being those who contributed to the Costume of Gloucester, now housed in the Museum of Gloucester, and the Skating Community, who worked with the City and independently to create safe spaces for its young people. The films will also be shared with and promoted by the charity’s Heritage Ambassadors scheme, in which students from schools across Gloucester work with Voices Gloucester and its heritage venues to promote community history and heritage to over 300 Gloucestershire Schools.
The grant was presented by Julie Kent, Trustee and past HCG Warden. The content of the film library has already been generated and this matched funding (they had already raised £1,000) will cover promotion and administration.
