The David Vaisey Library Prize - 2017 shortlist

Anne Robinson, chair of the judging panel, announced the four libraries shortlisted for the David Vaisey Library Prize at an event in the environs of Gloucester Cathedral on Tuesday 2 August. Each is guaranteed an award of at least £1,000 while the winner - to be announced at the Cheltenham Literary Festival on Sunday 8 October - will receive £5,000. Those shortlisted were:

  • Bream Library - for its imaginative initative to increase children's library visits; it also runs a regualr LEGO club.
  • Brockworth Community Library - praised for its Community Hub, providing a range of events and activities for both young and old.
  • Longlevens Library - for its magical reading space with a focus on Roald Dahl; new quiet spaces are being created based on popular childrens' books.
  • Tuffley & Matson libraries:
    • Tuffley for its Opening Doors initiative with Gloucester Academy; year 7 students visit weekly when the library provides talks and support.
    • Matson Library - which staged a Shakespeare production for students and works closely with Gloucester Academy to arrange student visits.
