On 14th May, Jacqueline Sutton MBE gave the 2026 Gloucestershire Business Lecture at the University of Gloucestershire’s Park Campus, Cheltenham. Jacqueline spoke on her experience in the civil aviation industry and her reflections on leadership. She focussed on three attributes of outstanding leaders:
Courage – building trust by having the courage to admit when you are wrong.
Resilience – leading through the challenging times.
Integrity & Trust – without personal integrity you cannot build trust
Over 150 people attended. After the lecture, Jacqueline took questions that covered a lot of ground from the importance of trust in brand identity to reflections on being a senior female leader in a relatively male-dominated industry.
Organised by the Honourable Company of Gloucestershire, the annual Gloucestershire Business Lecture is a free event open to all, and one of the ways that the Company engages with people across the county. Speakers in recent years have included Lord Michael Bichard and Dame Clare Marchant on the higher education landscape, Lt Gen Sir Nick Borton on the future of NATO, and Tim Atkins on the Golden Valley cyber development.
