Imjin 70 Dinner

In the meantime, links with South Korea will be maintained and in late September 2021 a dinner was held at Imjin Barracks, Gloucester to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Battle of the Imjin River where so many valiant soldiers of the 1st Battalion, The Gloucestershire Regiment fought and died. The following day a moving and poignant service was held in Gloucester Cathedral in the presence of their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, the Korean Minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs from the Republic of Korea, the Right Worshipful Mayor of Gloucester, Collette Finnegan and a number of military and civilian dignitaries. Wreaths were laid and prayers said for those lost. It was wonderful to see four Veterans of the Korean War in attendance. It may be known as “The Forgotten War” but it won’t be forgotten in Gloucestershire.

After the service, a march past of soldiers, veterans, and, members of the Korean community in the UK, took place. The salute was taken by the Duke of Gloucester and His Excellency Minister Hwang Ki Chul.
