The second annual Honourable Company of Gloucestershire business lecture took place at the University of Gloucestershire Park campus on a very wet Wednesday evening on 25 September. Despite the torrential conditions over 140 people attended to hear David Owen, Director of Economy and Environment for Gloucester County Council, present Gloucestershire “New Economic Strategy”.
Ruth Dooley introduced David with an intriguing and clever comparison to the Battle of Culloden. David commenced his presentation with the success of the LEP where its objectives were exceeded. He then went through the process to produce the strategy, which was based on facts and data. This developed a new strategy which built on our county’s strengths and nudged the county to a greener economy. David covered, sustainable growth, inward investment, skill and employment and business innovation, ending with the strap line “Driven by Innovation built on Heritage. Questions were orchestrated by Ruth Dooley and lasted for a full 30 minutes. After the presentation members of the Company were able to meet David over a glass of wine and some light refreshment.
