Visit to Energy from Waste Facility

Twenty members and guests visited the Urbaser Javelin Park site and received presentations the plant operation and its relationship with Gloucestershire County Council. Waste from Gloucestershire is collected by local Councils, that waste is managed by Gloucestershire County Council, the Urbaser Plant processes it into energy. The flow diagram (available by clicking the photo) shows mixing waste, burning it on a moving grate furnace, creating superheated steam which is used to power a turbine which in turn generates electric power, that power is then fed into the grid and used to power the plant. A significant portion of the plant is devoted to scrubbing/cleaning the flue gasses and processing the furnace waste to be reused e.g. road aggregate. The whole process is carefully monitored from waste receiving to quality of flue gas emissions.
