The HCG Charitable Trust awarded a grant of £750 to Cheltenham Hockey Club, which runs a Men’s masters’ team, 3 men’s teams, 4 women’s teams, an U18 Boys team, an U18 Girls team, an U16 Boys’ team and two U16 Girls’ teams. 50% of the Club are U18. The men’s and women’s 1st XIs have regularly played in the National League; and last year the U16G won the National Shield, while the U18G and Men’s O40s reached the National Plate semi-finals. Boys and Girls teams have appeared in 16 national finals and won 4 national titles in the last 10 years.
The money was towards the purchase of a Veo sports camera and stand to enable Cheltenham U18 & U16 training and matches to be filmed. The footage gives players the opportunity to review their own performance whilst coaches can provide individual and team analysis. Unlike pupils at independent schools, pupils at state schools are responsible for providing their own footage to evidence their PE GCSEs. This camera will be able to provide them with footage they need for their Physical Education GCSE course requirements.
Duncan Munro, Trustee, presented the cheque. Colonel Phil Robson, Academy Club Captain, explained to him how the camera works and showed him the output. Duncan was also able to watch some of the U16G training.
