Andrew Tabor, Chair of the HCG Charitable Trust, recently presented a cheque for £500 to Fiona Carter from CASS and Friends (Cotswold Athletes Support Scheme) which supports young athletes financially with their training and participation in top level sports. CASS & Friends is a grass roots charity supporting aspiring Olympians and World Champions achieve their dreams. Athletes are aged 12-18 and attend state schools. CASS supports those financially disadvantaged or disadvantaged in some way, including physical disabilities. A few examples are a discus thrower who is injured and needs costly physiotherapy, several tennis players who have to compete internationally to gain an International Tennis Federation Ranking, a canoe / kayaker who has been selected for the GB team and is competing and training internationally all summer with the GB team, and tumblers on the GB squad who have international compulsory training camps. All CASS athletes need new equipment to help them compete on a level playing field with more affluent competitors and the athletes say their performances have improved as a result of having some better kit and the ability to compete more often.
