Karen Morgan, Chair of the HCG Charitable Trust, visited MusicSpace to present a cheque for £500.
MusicSpace has been providing music therapy services across the South West since 1991. They use music to support people with their emotional, physical and mental health. They applied to the Trust for support for their two-year Community Early Intervention Project (EIP) benefitting children and young people in South Gloucestershire, which they plan to start in September 2026. The project supports children aged 3-18 years who are impacted by the high waiting list for autism, ADHD, and learning disability assessments.
MusicSpace has extensive experience running EIPs at hubs within Bristol and North Somerset and wish to expand their music therapy provision for children in hard-to-reach areas, helping families develop new communication strategies and building confidence and resilience. This particular project aims to establish a new and accessible hub in Yate, South Gloucestershire, an area of high child deprivation. Children awaiting assessments may be referred from any professional working with a family (for example: GPs, health visitors, PT, OT, School SENCOs). Each family will be offered up to 10 weeks of support. Early intervention is key to improving outcomes but cuts to statutory services mean there is limited access to support and appropriate therapeutic interventions which disproportionately affects those already facing disadvantage, such as low-income families or individuals with complex disabilities.
