Presentation to St Cecila Singers December 2022

Saint Cecilia Singers is a Chamber Choir affiliated to Gloucester Cathedral, which performs at venues across the county for the purposes of promoting musical enjoyment for members of the choir and its audiences, fundraising for other charitable causes and being accessible to youth and educational groups.  The singers are not paid for their performances and pay a modest annual subscription.  In Saint Cecilia Singers celebrated 70 years since their foundation by Donald Hunt by commissioning a new work from Neil Cox which was to be performed at a concert in Gloucester Cathedral in March 2020.  The work is entitled “Requiem Canticles” and lasts for 50 minutes. The choir successfully applied to the Honourable Company of Gloucestershire Charitable Trust for a grant of £1,000 to support that concert but sadly the event was cancelled as the Covid lockdown was imposed.   The choir returned the grant to the Trust but re-applied when the concert was rescheduled for 18th March 2023.  The Trustees were delighted to be able to re-award the £1,000.  The money will be put towards the costs of venue hire, fees to conductor, soloists and orchestral players and publicity for the concert.
