Synwell Playing Fields

On 18 December Michael Jones, Warden and Trustee, accompanied by Paul Massey, Chair of the Community Support Group, visited Synwell Playing Fields to present a £500 grant from the HCG Charitable Trust.

On a very wet day Mel Walker received the cheque on behalf of Synwell Playing Field Association. The grant will be put towards purchasing new play equipment for the toddler age group, an area they want to improve.  The Association is aiming to raise £25,000 to install a new design for the children’s play area that has been produced by Creative Play, their chosen play space provider;  they have just under £15,400 so far.  Paul hopes to visit again in 2026 when the redevelopment work has concluded.

Synwell Playing Fields are in Wotton Under Edge.  The Fields incorporate a football pitch, children’s play equipment and exercise equipment – all free to use 24 hours, 365 days a year.  The site was purchased in 1932 with money raised from weekly payments by the local community and is one of the few privately owned playing fields in England.  A small number of dedicated volunteers from the locality manage the site on behalf of its Trustees.
