Tewkesbury Battlefield Society

On Monday 30th March Andrew Tabor, Trust Chair (pictured left), presented a cheque for £500 from the HCG Charitable Trust to Steve Goodchild, Chair of Trustees of the Tewkesbury Battlefield Society, to support the Society’s project to erect a sculpture of Margaret of Anjou, wife of Henry VI, in the grounds of Tewkesbury Abbey.   The sculpture has been created by Diane Gorvin and Phil Bews. The presentation took place in the Tewkesbury Museum in front of a likeness of Margaret of Anjou, who was the mother of Edward of Westminster, the Lancastrian heir to the throne.  He was killed during the Battle of Tewkesbury and is buried in the Abbey.  The Society aims to raise public awareness of the events of the battle and to promote the sites as an integrated educational resource, whilst encouraging tourism and leisure activity.
