Bill Armiger, Trustee, presented a cheque for £1,000 from the HCG Charitable Trust to The Three Choirs Festival. The grant had been requested to support the Festival’s Sing My Story project.
Around 200 children from Barnwood, Carrant Brook, Highnam and Lakeside primary schools (all with areas of social deprivation and no or little music opportunity) took part in in-school workshops with specialist music educators. During 10 weekly combined creative writing, song-writing and music workshops children discovered, created and enjoyed music by working together and learning to write their own school’s songs and to sing as a choir. The schools came together in Tewkesbury Abbey as one choir to rehearse and perform traditional songs and to perform their very own school’s works to family and friends on March 18th. All the children have been encouraged to join future choirs, especially the Festival’s Youth Choir.”
